Nursery Funding Information Sheet
If you have a 2year old or a 3 or 4year old attending or going to attend Nursery, the Government website Childcare Choices has all the latest information on funding that you may be eligible to claim. There is also information on help with paying Nursery fees through the Tax-Free Childcare Scheme.
Codes for 2year old funding and 30hours free childcare for 3 & 4 year olds
There are some key points that you need to know if you are considering applying for a funding code for either 15 hours free childcare for a 2year old or 30 hours funding for a 3 or 4 year old:
If you want to use a code for the Autumn term or any time during the Autumn term (September to December) you need to apply for the code before 31st August.
If you want to use a code for the Spring term or any time during the Spring term (January to March) you need to apply for the code before 31st December.
If you want to use a code for the Summer term or any time during the Summer term (April to July) you need to apply for the code before 31st March. These dates apply regardless of when the Easter holiday falls.
It can be misleading if you apply after these dates as the code may have a start date earlier than the start of the next term, for example if you apply for a code on 2nd January and the code states that it starts on 4th January, you still won’t be able to use it until the
1st April as you didn’t apply before 31st December.
Once you have received a code, you must renew it every 3 months. Gov.uk will send you a reminder, you must renew your code in time, or your code will no longer be valid.
15 hours free
All children are eligible for 15 hours free funding the term after their 3rd birthday, so if your child is 3 years old on 2nd September, their free 15 hours won’t start until the following January.
